B-Side of Life

 A lovely album that fuses swing, blues and folk. Michelle Shocked's inviting voice creates a mellow atmosphere, reminiscent at times of some Fiona Apple's  work. Being interventive and socially aware, the album's name refers to the swing riots of 1830 in England where workers protested against the use of new  machines that essentialy threatened their work.  A n album that pays homage to the roots of american music while being socially and politically aware at the same time. 

  Released in 1974, Angel Eyes is filled with songs generous with funk and soul. American Gypsy was formed in the USA but eventually settled in the Netherlands  where they recorded this album. It is funky and bouncy with a whole lot of soul lovin'. There is a whole array of instruments being played with a tight rhythm section and a whole lot of horns. It brings you back to an era where soul and funk were all the rage. 

  Funky, spiritual jazz from Stanley Clarke. It's  the first debut album by this jazz veteran,  and it features a huge list of collaborators,  such as Joe Farrell on soprano sax, and drummer  Airto Moreira. The vocals by brazilian musician  Flora Purim provide an ethereal ambiance to the  pieces. Mellow and experimental at times, jazz  gets elevated. 

  Bob Moses, known as a versatile and creative drummer, takes his composition angles into fruition in this album. With a huge array of collaborators like Bill Frisell on guitar, Tony Coe on sax, and many other highly regarded musicians, Bob Moses creates seven pieces of pure and diverse jazz. The vocals by Hiroshi Hieda, Kyoko Baker and Rayko Shiota create eerie and colorful melodies, adding a touch of experimental to the main jazz core. Ethnic and extremely deep in terms of percussion it's a good addition to jazz being made in the 80's.

  A must have for fans of filmmaker extraordinaire, Doris Wishman. This vynil comes with a neat leaflet with information about her movies and a dvd that you can sync with the LP. The DVD features clips from her nudist period movies as well as later ones such as Bad girls go to hell.  The LP in itself contains audio from trailers, original theme songs and some jazzy tunes to hype you up. 

Heartfelt and vibrant soul with psychedelic tinges by Curtis Harding. A solid set of songs about everyday life hardships, love and family retaining the classic 70's sweet soul sound. Top notch musicianship all around and a true contemporary soul classic.   

  Debut EP from american duo Origami Angel released in 2017. Mellow songs that are delicate and introspective, a sophisticated yet very subtle kind of emo. The lyrics are melancholic and often engaged in what it means to stand and fit in this world.  The duo went on to make bolder and tinged pop punk with some screamo elements in the subsequent releases.
